His concept for Kanata called for “clusters” of 50 homes with common architectural themes, styles, materials and colour schemes and only local roads with no through traffic. Each neighbourhood would contain about 800 homes bounded by through streets, with schools as the focal point. A community would contain two to five neighbourhoods with a community centre at its hub, providing shopping, commercial, professional and medical facilities.
