TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index climbed in late-morning trading on Friday, helped by gains in the basic materials sector, while U.S. markets were also gaining ground.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 419.95 points at 32,885.23.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 87.45 points at 49,539.43. The S&P 500 index was up 17.10 points at 6,849.86, while the Nasdaq composite was up 8.38 points at 22,605.53.
The Canadian dollar traded for 73.35 cents US compared with 73.50 cents US on Thursday.
The March crude oil contract was down six cents US at US$62.78 per barrel.
The April gold contract was up US$75.70 at US$5,024.10 an ounce.
