The maker of Sheertex pantyhose says it will soon seek court approval to sell the firm to a rival hosiery manufacturer.
SRTX Inc. says it has reached a sale agreement with AYK International Inc., a Quebec-based company that makes pantyhose under the Secret and Silks brands.
SRTX refused to name the value or terms of the sale but says the deal does not include the lease for the company’s Pointe-Claire, Que., facility and certain machinery and equipment.
SRTX says AYK will continue to operate the Sheertex brand and commercialize its proprietary technology but says the purchaser will keep less than 10 of its staff. It says “only a small number of” employees remain at SRTX now for transition purposes.
SRTX says the AYK deal is part of a notice of intention to make a proposal under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act it filed with a court. NOIs help companies facing financial troubles restructure.
SRTX launched a strategic review of the business last fall, warning that the process could result in a sale of the business started by entrepreneur Katherine Homuth in 2017. Homuth departed the company last year, but when SRTX launched the review she said she had submitted a proposal to return to the firm.
