Dreams of heading to the cottage were crushed for most “Heated Rivalry” fans on Tuesday, but a few lucky Loons managed to secure a stay at the Muskoka hotspot before it sold out.
Four weekends at the cottage that appears in the season finale of Crave’s hit hockey romance series were snapped up in a matter of seconds, according to Jayne’s Cottages, the high-end property manager behind the rentals.
Only a few of the eager fans who were hitting refresh on the Airbnb listing managed to book.
Marjorie Beaugad, originally from France and now living in Boston, was one of them. She secured the cottage from May 8 to 10, its first weekend of availability, and plans to stay with two of her closest friends.
“I’m ecstatic,” the 35-year-old told the Star.
“I was at work. I couldn’t scream, but I would have.”
Like many others, Beaugaud hadn’t counted on a spot at the coveted cottage. Recently, she had discussed making a trip to Ontario with her friends that would include some sort of cottage getaway.
“We were not thinking it was going to be that one,” she said.
Since posting about her luck on social media, she’s been flooded with well wishes — and hopeful requests for an invite. Even her therapist, a fellow fan, lost her mind when she learned her patient was headed to the cottage.
Jayne’s Cottages acknowledged in an open letter that many people might’ve felt let down, and made an addendum to its Instagram post with an apt Canadian apology: “Sorry that not everyone was able to book one of the four prized weekends.”
The company has since taken the post down.
The company went on to say that all four weekends were snapped up “within seconds of noon” when the listing first went live on Airbnb, adding that the response “confirmed just how extraordinary the demand is.”
Supply was far outweighed by demand, and fans knew that going in, but some hoped they could beat the odds and secure one of the four slots.
The three-bedroom lakefront property, dubbed the Barlochan Cottage, sleeps six and rented for $248.10 per night — a nod to Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov’s jersey numbers, 24 and 81.
Jayne’s Cottages confirmed these were “celebratory rates” and that the cottage would be “priced according to market value” when summer bookings open on June 1.
“As with any highly sought-after and limited property, pricing reflects both market conditions and the rarity of the experience itself,” wrote company founder Jayne McCaw.
“While not everyone will have the opportunity to experience this particular cottage, there are thousands of other cottages, lodges, hotels and villas in the area that offer their own version of the same magic.”
A representative for Airbnb said the listing would be part of its Airbnb Luxe offerings, with the property host determining the price. Airbnb Luxe specializes in high-end properties that often fetch more than $1,000 per night.
Some “Heated Rivalry” fans had been sharing their frustration on social media in the minutes after the listing went up.
“So disappointed,” wrote ems.mart on Instagram.
“I understand the vast audience that this property reached, but it doesn’t seem very fair that there were only 4 weekends and everything moving forward is priced in the thousands. could have been a summer special that were released at different times to make it more accessible.”
Other fans kept an optimistic tone:
“Heartbroken, but so unbelievably excited for whoever booked these weekends!” posted daysofkirsten.
“Will still be visiting Canada in May, all the way from Australia, and although I won’t be staying at the cottage, I’m so unbelievably grateful for the opportunity to try.”
On Monday, a few eagle-eyed fans noticed Airbnb had posted a weekend getaway in early 2027 at a significantly higher price.
Two nights at the cottage in late February 2027 were listed for $12,342. A representative for Airbnb attributed the high price to a glitch and confirmed the listing has since been removed.
As her trip approaches, Beaugad is starting to map out the perfect girls’ weekend. She’s planning to put out an open invitation to the cast and creators to swing by, and figure out other ways to make the experience as loyal to “Heated Rivalry” as possible.
“We might re-enact some of the stuff in there, just for the thrill. Too many burgers — but vegetarian burgers because we’re all vegetarian,” she said.
“And we’re going to rewatch everything. That’s guaranteed.”
