Two dead, one critically injured in high-rise fire

Two people are dead and a third is in critical condition following a fire Saturday night at a residential high-rise at 395 Somerset St. near Bank Street.

Ottawa Fire Services were alert by a monitoring agency at 9:36 p.m. that

alarms were sounding 19th floor of the building.

Paramedic Services confirmed Sunday morning one person was declared deceased at the scene, while a second was taken to hospital, but later succumbed to their injuries.

A third person is in critical condition, while two other are injured.

Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed that smoke and flames were visible through a balcony door.

The fire was declared under control at 10:03 p.m.

The fire was extinguished and contained to the area of origin before it could spread.

An Ottawa Fire Services Investigator was dispatched to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
