York Regional Police (YRP) say an investigation is underway after a threats call prompted a significant police response and an evacuation in a Vaughan neighbourhood Friday morning.

Officers were first called around 8:07 a.m. to the area of Bathurst Street and Ner Israel Drive, where police advised the public to avoid the area due to an “ongoing investigation.” Multiple cruisers were seen blocking portions of the roadway as officers conducted checks in the neighbourhood.

In an update just before 9 a.m., police confirmed they were responding to a threats call and were working to determine its credibility. A spokesperson said community members should expect a continued police presence while the investigation unfolds.

YRP later confirmed that, out of caution, an evacuation took place as officers assessed the nature of the threat. No details have been released about who the threat was directed toward.

“We’re unable to provide any information that would identify the victim of the threat,” police said.

Jaffari Community Centre and Ner Israel Yeshiva College are in the vicinity of where the threats were made.

The area has since reopened, though officers remain on scene as part of the ongoing investigation.
