TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index was up nearly 400 points in late-morning trading, helped by strength in base metal stocks, while U.S. markets also pushed higher.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 393.41 points at 33,711.80.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 609.38 points at 49,471.19. The S&P 500 index was up 30.72 points at 7,166.67, while the Nasdaq composite was up 43.78 points at 24,717.02.
The Canadian dollar traded for 73.45 cents US compared with 73.09 cents US on Wednesday.
The June crude oil contract was down US$1.95 at US$104.93 per barrel.
The June gold contract was up US$71.80 at US$4,633.30 an ounce.
