Toronto police say a woman who was struck by a cement truck in Cabbagetown on Friday afternoon was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say just before 12:30 p.m., a cement truck was southbound on Parliament Street at Gerrard Street East in the centre lane when the traffic light turned green. A woman was crossing Parliament Street from the west side to the east side in the north crosswalk when she was struck by the truck. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the cement truck remained on scene.
Duty Insp. Jon Rose said it’s too early in the investigation to say if any charges will be laid. He added that the driver and pedestrian did not “interact” with each other before the fatal collision occurred.
Rose said the victim, whose identity has not been released, was 39-years-old.
Gerrard Street East was closed for several hours between Berkeley and Sumach streets for the investigation, before reopening just after 4:30 p.m.
