Police descended on a downtown neighbourhood near an elementary school after receiving a call for a possible firearm Monday morning.

At about 11 a.m. on May 25, police arrived at 300 Gloucester St. after someone spotted what may have been a firearm on an apartment balcony, according to police spokesperson Julie Kavanagh.

Gloucester Street was temporarily closed between Percy and Bay streets, and Centennial Public School students were kept indoors, Kavanagh said.

OPS confirmed there was no firearm or threat to the public.

Jamie Dunlop, an officer on the scene, said the supposed firearm turned out to be a toy gun.
