Teenaged boys charged in May 30 Mooney’s Bay stabbing attack

Ottawa police have charged to teenaged boys in connection with a stabbing attack at Mooney’s Bay on May 30.

In a release Thursday, police said a 16-year-old boy has been charged with two counts each of aggravated assault, and assault with a weapon and a charges of possession of a dangerous weapon and carrying a concealed weapon.

A 15-year-old youth has been charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon.

The teens cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The charges stem from an incident at the park when an 18-year-old man was taken to hospital in critical condition with stab wounds. A 16-year-old girl suffered minor lacerations.

Police later said as many as two dozen youths had gathered in the park when they confrontation began.

Police have not identified the causes of the confrontation.
