A tornado warning for parts of Eastern Ontario, issued Tuesday afternoon, was subsequently lifted by Environment Canada.
In its place was a severe thunderstorm watch, with the national weather agency’s updated advisory saying conditions were “favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.”
Possible hazards included local rainfall amounts in excess of 50 millimetres, wind gusts of between 90 and 110 km/h and hail the size of quarters.
The thunderstorm watch ended at about 6:45 p.m.
The tornado warning was first issued at 4:11 p.m., initially expected to be located in the Vars area in the southeast end of Ottawa, but the storm was said to be moving quickly to the northeast at 65 km/h.
