TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index was up more than 200 points in late-morning trading, helped by strength in the base metal and energy sectors as commodity prices climbed higher.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 208.96 points at 35,578.04.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 86.18 points at 52,310.82. The S&P 500 index was up 3.80 points at 7,513.00, while the Nasdaq composite was down 33.19 points at 25,804.02.
The Canadian dollar traded for 71.01 cents US compared with 70.95 cents US on Tuesday.
The September crude oil contract was up US$2.61 at US$86.95 per barrel.
The August gold contract was up US$82.10 at US$4,158.50 an ounce.
