Environment Canada has issued a “Yellow” storm alert for the Capital Region bringing the possibility of severe thunderstorms with strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

The heads up covers most of metropolitan Ottawa, from Kanata to Orléans and Ottawa North.

“Wind gusts could reach 90 km/h (with) quarter-sized hail (and) heavy rain,” the agency said in a social-media post shortly before 1:30 p.m.

The alert is expected to continue into Wednesday evening.

“Scattered thunderstorms have developed and are expected to persist through the day,” Environment Canada reports.

As usual, Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.

To report severe weather, send an email to [email protected] or post reports on social media using #ONStorm. For more information: ontario.ca/page/be-prepared-emergency
