Ottawa police arrested 17 people during a series of operations targeting shoplifting at a Rideau Street business.
The Ottawa Police Service said officers with its Central District Neighbourhood Resource Team conducted the operations between July 12 and Aug. 18 in response to theft concerns at the business.
Police said they worked alongside the store’s loss prevention staff, carrying out operations at various times over the roughly five-week period. Police said the increased presence was intended to limit theft and improve public safety in the area.
The operation resulted in 17 criminal charges, while one warrant was executed and seven Provincial Offence Notices were issued, according to police.
Police did not identify the business or provide details about the people arrested or the charges they face.
Ottawa police are asking businesses to continue reporting thefts and suspicious activity.
