OC Transpo is extending its Para Transpo service by two hours on Friday and Saturday nights as part of a one-year pilot beginning Sept. 4.

Para Transpo customers have typically been able to book the service daily from 6 a.m. to midnight.

OC Transpo general manager Rick Leary said those hours will be extended to 2 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays to match the hours of the O-Train Line 1 and as part of OC Transpo’s fall service improvements.

“This pilot responds to customer feedback that providing late night service will allow for more participation in community events,” Leary said in a memo.

The enhanced service was approved by city council in June “to support more spontaneity for Para Transpo customers,” Leary said.

Customers who wish to travel between midnight and 2 a.m. will be required to book their trips on the previous service day. Rural trips will end earlier at 1:30 a.m.

Riders will need to call 613-560-5000 to book late-night trips as the online booking platform is not currently available for the project. Leary said staff are working on securing a vendor for online bookings in the future.
