Toronto-area drivers headed up north this weekend will be getting there a little bit faster. As of Friday, on Highway 400 between Highway 401 to Lake Joseph Road, the speed limit will increase to 110 kilometres an hour.
Highway 400 is among four other highways where speeds will be increasing including Highway 115 from highway 35 to Parkway Interchange in the east end of the GTA.
It’s part of the Ford’s government sweeping expansion of 110 km/h speed limits that has been rolled out in phases over the summer.
Ontario first tested higher limits in 2019 on three highway segments, then expanded the program in 2022 and again in 2024. Those expansions covered roughly 860 kilometres – about 36 per cent of the network – and included stretches of the QEW, Highway 402, Highway 417, and Highway 404.
