Investigation into North York crash leaves 1 person dead after officer fires weapon

A person is dead after a police officer discharged their weapon during an investigation in North York on Saturday.

Toronto police say they were in the Wilson Avenue and King High Avenue area just before 1:30 p.m. for reports of a damaged vehicle driving erratically when the vehicle in question was involved in a crash.

Police say the driver of the vehicle attempted to flee the scene as police arrived.

“As a result of the interaction with the suspect, an officer discharged their firearm,” police said in a social media post. “Suspect has been pronounced deceased on scene.”

Investigators say none of the officers at the scene were injured.
