TORONTO – Strength in the financial and base metal sectors helped Canada’s main stock index rise nearly 200 points in late-morning trading, while U.S. stock markets also climbed higher.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 183.81 points at 36,897.93.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 47.74 points at 53,464.90. The S&P 500 index was up 13.45 points at 7,666.31, while the Nasdaq composite was up 110.65 points at 26,090.84.
The Canadian dollar traded for 72.24 cents US, unchanged from Monday.
The October crude oil contract was down US$2.51 at US$82.50 per barrel.
The December gold contract was down US$7.30 at US$4,690.50 an ounce.
