Journalist Lisa LaFamme says she hopes young people look to Gloria Steinem’s legacy for lessons on the power of using their voice to fight for justice.
Steinem, a leading voice for feminism for more than six decades, died on Wednesday at age 92.
Tributes to Steinem poured in from celebrities, politicians and people who were inspired by her fight for equality, including LaFlamme.
The former CTV National News anchor says one of her earliest memories growing up was reading Ms. Magazine, the publication Steinem co-founded in 1972.
She says now she strives to empower women in journalism through her own work with the organization Journalists for Human Rights.
LaFlamme says what she hopes young people, and especially young women, remember about Steinem’s legacy is that your voice is the most powerful tool you own.
Steinem, who had been in declining health, died at her home in New York City, according to a post on her social media page. She had recently completed a memoir, to be released this fall.
