A Gatineau police officer charged with assault and uttering threats in connection with an on-duty incident in 2025 was acquitted on Sept. 8, the Gatineau Police Service has announced.
However, Jonathan Lévesque remains suspended with pay pending a review by the force’s Professional Standards Division of the next steps in the disciplinary process, according to a news release on Sept. 10.
The release also said the charges against Lévesque had been authorized by Quebec’s Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP) in August 2025, two months after the original incident occurred while he was on duty.
The release also said Gatineau Police Service leadership “wishes to reiterate that it requires its police officers to uphold the highest ethical and professional standards and does not hesitate to implement measures and processes to foster a genuine culture of ethics within the organization.”
