OTTAWA—As federal officials investigate how the RCMP awarded a $7.5-million contract to a border patrol helicopter later grounded over regulatory concerns, Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree is characterizing the issue as a “miscommunication” that is “being resolved.”

It’s the first public response from a senior Canadian government official after the Mounties chartered, then grounded less than two weeks later a border patrol Black Hawk in June because it may not have been eligible to fly in Canada, as first reported by the Star.
