TORONTO – Strength in the technology and base metal sectors helped Canada’s main stock index gain more than 150 points in late-morning trading, while U.S. stock markets were mixed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 157.23 points at 35,739.30.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 27.92 points at 52,065.19. The S&P 500 index was up 30.25 points at 7,615.98, while the Nasdaq composite was up 214.81 points at 26,196.38.
The Canadian dollar traded for 71.75 cents US compared with 71.85 cents US on Tuesday.
The October crude oil contract was down US$4.33 at US$101.50 per barrel.
The December gold contract was up US$63.70 at US$4,396.50 an ounce.
