Four raspberry and raspberry-containing products sold at Summerhill Market locations in Ontario are being recalled over possible norovirus contamination, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) says.
The recall affects Summerhill Market frozen raspberries, frozen berry mix and frozen smoothie mix, along with Protein Power Pod Raspberries, according to an advisory published Tuesday.
The CFIA said the recall was triggered by findings during its investigation into a food-borne illness outbreak.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of the recalled products so far.
The affected products were sold from Jul. 29 to Sept. 15 at six Summerhill Market locations in Toronto, York and Aurora.
The recalled products include:
- 800-gram packages of Summerhill Market Frozen Raspberries
- 900-gram packages of Summerhill Market Frozen Berry Mix
- 900-gram packages of Summerhill Market Frozen Smoothie Mix
- 135-gram Protein Power Pod Raspberry product
The CFIA is advising people not to consume, sell or distribute the products and that consumers should discard or return the items from where they were purchased.
People with Norovirus typically develop symptoms of gastroenteritis within 24 to 48 hours of exposure, although symptoms can begin as early as 12 hours.
They can include diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and stomach cramps, along with fever. Most people recover within one or two days.
The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation and verifying if the recalled products are being removed from markets.
