TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index was up more than 150 points in late-morning trading, helped by broad-based strength including gains in the technology and industrial sectors, while U.S. stock markets also moved higher.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 170.52 points at 35,325.28.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 71.25 points at 50,997.81. The S&P 500 index was up 40.31 points at 7,706.76, while the Nasdaq composite was up 270.52 points at 27,142.12.
The Canadian dollar traded for 70.19 cents US compared with 70.21 cents US on Thursday.
The November crude oil contract was down US$2.78 at US$90.09 per barrel.
The December gold contract was down US$25.50 at US$4,176.80 an ounce.
