An adult pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle in Barrhaven on Wednesday evening, the Ottawa Paramedic Service said.

Paramedics spokesperson Marc-Antoine Deschamps said responders were called to Greenbank Road near Cambrian Road at about 6:15 p.m.

The unidentified adult was declared dead at the scene, Deschamps said, adding that further details were being withheld pending notification to the victim’s next-of-kin.

The driver of the vehicle, an adult male, was transported to hospital in stable condition with minor injuries, Deschamps said.

The crash and subsequent investigation led to the closure of Greenbank Road from Cambrian Road to Egret Way, the Ottawa Police Service said.

This was at least the fifth instance of pedestrians or cyclists being struck by vehicles in Ottawa since Tuesday.

At around the same time, a male pedestrian in his teens was transported to hospital in serious condition after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Earl Armstrong Road and Canyon Walk Drive.

As well, a 23-year-old woman was transported to hospital for life-threatening injuries after she was struck by a vehicle on Riverside Drive near the RA Centre early Tuesday morning.
