John Amos, a beloved television and film actor, was revealed to have died earlier this year in August with the news coming as a shock to his longtime fans. Among those blindsided by the news of Jon Amos’ passing were members of his family, and his daughter shared a moving post on social media as the Amos family continues to process the matter.

Shannon Amos, the daughter of John Amos, shared on Instagram a video post with her father and a statement regarding how she was unaware of his death until the news broke wide online.

From Instagram:

I am without words…Our family has received the heartbreaking news that my Dad, John Allen Amos, Jr., transitioned on August 21st.

We are devastated and left with many questions about how this happened 45 days ago, learning about it through the media like so many of you.

This should be a time of honoring and celebrating his life, yet we are struggling to navigate the wave of emotions and uncertainties surrounding his passing. Still, there is some semblance of peace in knowing my father is finally free.

Ms. Amos continued on Instagram writing, “My family and I deeply appreciate the outpouring of love, calls, and texts. Please continue to hold our family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you.”

In a The Hollywood Reporter article published in November 2023, the piece depicted tension between Amos’ daughter and his son, K.C. Amos. The pair both accused the other of mishandling the health of their famous father, stating instances of negligence and other charges.

A quick scan of K.C. Amos’ Instagram page doesn’t make any mention of John Amos.
