TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index was up in late-morning trading, helped by strength in the financial, telecom and energy sectors, while U.S. stock markets also climbed higher.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 62.25 points at 24,623.45.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 117.01 points at 43,194.71. The S&P 500 index was up 11.41 points at 5,853.88, while the Nasdaq composite was up 61.51 points at 18,428.59.
The Canadian dollar traded for 72.55 cents US compared with 72.62 cents US on Wednesday.
The December crude oil contract was up 33 cents at US$70.15 per barrel and the November natural gas contract was up less than a penny at US$2.37 per mmBTU.
The December gold contract was up US$19.10 at US$2,710.40 an ounce and the December copper contract was down three cents at US$4.34 a pound.
