Peel Regional Police are investigating after a man in his 40s was shot in Mississauga on Saturday.

Officers were called to a plaza on Eglinton Avenue East near Dixie Road around 12:30 p.m. for sounds of gunshots.

When they arrived they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital in serious but non-life threatening condition.

There was no suspect description available.

“We have varying reports of people fleeing on foot and in vehicles but it’s too early at this point to determine whether or not those are suspects or individuals fleeing gunfire,” said Cst. Tyler Bell.

Investigators say the shooting appears targeted in nature but it’s too early to tell if the victim was the intended target.
