TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index climbed higher in late-morning trading, helped by strength in the technology, financial and utility sectors, while U.S. stock markets also rose.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 85.26 points at 24,844.66.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 345.90 points at 44,334.89. The S&P 500 index was up 15.18 points at 6,010.72, while the Nasdaq composite was up 19.43 points at 19,306.21.
The Canadian dollar traded for 71.83 cents US compared with 71.88 cents US on Friday.
The December crude oil contract was down US$2.18 at US$68.20 per barrel and the December natural gas contract was up 27 cents at US$2.94 per mmBTU.
The December gold contract was down US$75.00 at US$2,619.80 an ounce and the December copper contract was down six cents at US$4.25 a pound.
