Toronto police are searching for a suspect who stole a vehicle with a family’s dog still inside.
Authorities were notified of a vehicle theft in the area of Bloor Street West and Highway 427 in Etobicoke just before 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
Police said a white Jeep Grand Cherokee with the Ontario licence plate CVRB054 was stolen, and a dog was inside the vehicle.
CityNews received a news tip that the vehicle had been stolen when a father dropped his daughter off at a nearby school.
CityNews later spoke to the father, who alleged that the suspect approached him and threatened to “hurt the kids” if he didn’t hand over his car. A weapon was not seen, and the man gave the suspect the keys to his vehicle. No physical injuries were reported.
The dog is described as a four-year-old brown chocolate lab named Roxy. The white Jeep was last seen travelling westbound on Bloor Street. The suspect is a white male in his late 30s with a short, light-coloured beard.
The suspect in the stolen Jeep may have travelled to Peel Region, and the police force is urging members of the public to be on the lookout for the vehicle.
“If anyone has any information regarding this incident, please contact Toronto police,” Peel Regional Police wrote on X.
