Adrak, a Toronto restaurant serving up modern Indian cuisine, already has a stamp of approval from the prestigious Michelin Guide. But the Yorkville establishment received another major publicity boost this week when it was visited by the global pop band the Jonas Brothers.
Kevin, Joe and Nick — singers and actors best known for smash hits like “Sucker” and “Burning Up” — made an unexpected visit to Adrak on Tuesday, a representative for the restaurant confirmed to the Star.
“All of the brothers said the food was amazing and that they really liked the Chai biscuit dessert a lot,” the representative said in email statement said.
Adrak Yorkville co-founder Ambica Jain said that being able to have the brothers dine at Adrak Yorkville “was the best way to start the year and it was so amazing to have the brothers in.”
The brothers Jonas are not the first celebrities to visit Adrak: high-profile stars like Jessica Alba, Oscar Issac, Daniel Boulud and Karan Aujla have also stopped by.
But Jain said she was impressed by the humility of Kevin, Joe and Nick.
“They were extremely friendly, kind and appreciative,” she added. “No star-power attitude, and very humble.”
It’s unclear why the Jonas Brothers are currently hanging out in Toronto, though fans are speculating that they may be in town to film an upcoming television and movie project. The last time the Jonas Brothers made a tour stop in the city was the summer of 2023, when they played at Rogers Centre.
What is clear, based on the restaurant’s mouth-watering menu and stunning design, is why the brothers chose Adrak.
“No expense was spared in the design, with hand-carved furniture, cushy, turmeric-colored booths lining the walls and striking archways all basking in a golden aura,” reads the official recommendation from Toronto’s Michelin Guide. “But good looks can only take you so far, and this kitchen rises to the occasion with precisely seasoned, carefully cooked dishes inspired from regions all across India.”
Writing in the Star in 2022, food critic Suresh Doss named Adrak’s Richmond Hill location as one the best spots in the GTA for biryani.
“My first visit to Adrak seven years ago was a revelation,” Doss wrote. “Rice is prepared ahead of time, it’s then sealed with the protein, covered with dough and cooked in a tandoor-like oven for just over a minute … The protein is tender enough to succumb to the back of your spoon, and the spices are bold and bright.”
Among the dishes the Jonas brothers ordered were the royal pista lamb chop, prawn tandoori and chai biscuit. Sounds delicious.
The Jonas Brothers also checked out Gusto, an Italian restaurant in Toronto, some time this week, at least according to one social media user, though this is unconfirmed.
Last summer, another American actor made a stink when he visited a small restaurant on Ossington.
