The Toronto Police Service (TPS) said six people have been arrested, and more than a dozen vehicles were recovered in an extensive auto theft investigation.
Authorities began probing the trafficking of stolen motor vehicles in August 2024.
On Sept. 13, 2024, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) intercepted and inspected a shipping container linked to the investigation. Working with Toronto authorities, CBSA officers confirmed that the six vehicles inside had been stolen from Toronto, York Region, Peel Region, and Halton Region.
Six search warrants were executed on Jan. 24, 2025. During those searches, officers recovered a replica handgun, ammunition, a GPS jammer and other items. Officers also located eight vehicles that had been allegedly stolen in Toronto, Halton, Durham and Ottawa.
Six people have been arrested, including Khalad Alazrak, 57, of Toronto, Wajdi Shamsa, 40, of Toronto, Mohammad Najjar, 28, of Toronto, Ahmad Khaled Ahmad Shawer, 27, of Toronto and Belal Khaled Alazrak, 31, of Ajax.
The charges range from possession of property obtained by crime over to possession of property obtained by crime over for the purpose of trafficking.
