Crowds at an Ottawa Senators game booed during the American national anthem hours after U.S. President Donald Trump announced 25 per cent tariffs on Canadian imports and 10 per cent on Canadian energy on Saturday.
Videos posted to X and elsewhere on social media showed fans jeering once Ottawa-born singer Mandia Nantsios began singing the opening lines of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The crowd then began enthusiastically cheering when she started performing “O Canada.”
Nantsios posted a video of her performance on her Instagram story and joked around about staying nonchalant despite the audiences’ boos. She added that she had been warned about a possibly negative reaction before she walked out on the ice.
