Police in Durham Region have laid additional charges after a woman was found dead outside an assisted living facility in Oshawa during the 2023 Easter weekend.
Police say in April 2023, they were called to Aspira Traditions of Durham Retirement on Bloor Street Street East after a 79-year-old woman was found on a bench outside the facility. She was later pronounced dead in hospital.
The cause of death was later determined to be exposure to the elements.
An investigation determined the woman entered a stairwell and found herself outside around 7:30 p.m. on March 31, 2023. She attempted to get back into the facility but was unable because the doors were all locked. She then sat on the bench outside until she was found the next day without any vital signs.
In December 2024, Padmini Kisseur, 34, of Oshawa and Danika Harrison, 29, of Newcastle were charged with criminal negligence causing death and failing to provide necessities of life for someone under their care.
On Feb. 6, 2025, investigators laid a charge of criminal negligence causing death against 32-year-old Jessica White as well as the retirement facility.
