EDMONTON – Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is distancing herself from a multimillion-dollar lab testing debacle involving the former private provider DynaLife.
Smith told the legislature the problems predated her time in office and that when she came in, she moved quickly to fix them.
Her comments come a day after the auditor general reported this week that some $109 million in public funds went to waste.
He reported that just months after DynaLife took over provincewide testing in 2022 under a deal with the United Conservative government, it became clear it couldn’t deliver.
Smith says the cancelling the DynaLife contract was the right thing to do and that’s why it was one of the first moves her new government made after the 2023 election.
She says since lab testing was brought fully back under the public system, patients haven’t seen long wait times or testing errors that were reported under DynaLife.
