SAULT STE. MARIE – Algoma Steel Group Inc. has released guidance for the first quarter, saying it expects total steel shipments for the period to come in at around 220,000 tons.
In the first quarter of 2025, Algoma reported shipments of 469,731 tons.
The company also says it expects its adjusted loss before deductions to be between $25 million and $35 million in the first quarter of this year.
Algoma CEO Rajat Marwah says the first quarter of 2026 marked a defining moment for the company as it fully transitioned to electric arc furnace steelmaking.
He says the transition comes after years of planning and nearly $1 billion in investment.
Earlier this month, Algoma Steel reported its shipments during the fourth quarter were 378,533 tons, down 31 per cent year-over-year from 548,802 tons.
