played a key role in the rescue of an injured worker on Friday.

“The operators were amazing,”

Ottawa Paramedic Service

spokesperson Marc-Antoine Deschamps said Friday afternoon, describing the “complicated” recovery of the worker who had received a blunt-force injury on the worksite.

While paramedics and firefighters reached the victim on foot, they couldn’t bring stretchers and other gear to the accident site, so that equipment had to be loaded onto cranes.

The victim was assessed and, while the injury was serious, it was not deemed life-threatening.

At that point, the victim, a paramedic trained in high-angle rescue and a firefighter got into a large metal box that was lifted by crane out of the accident area to a waiting ambulance.

“The (crane) operators knew what they were doing,” Deschamps said.

“Kudos to them.”
