Arctic cold front enters Day 2 in capital

Frostbite warnings continue to be in effect in the capital Saturday as a massive cold front entered its second full day in the area.

The high is forecast to reach only -20 C, and winds of up to 15 km/h could create a wind chill effect of -39 in the morning, then a “feels like” reading of -27 in the afternoon.

The temperature is expected to sink to a low of -29 C Saturday night, with wind chill readings as low as -39 C.

Sunday should bring increasing cloudiness with periods of light snow beginning in the afternoon. Wind are expected to pick up through the day, making for chill factor readings of about -19 C, according to Environment Canada.

Temperatures aren’t expected to return to “normal” winter temperatures of about -10 C later this week.

Periods of snow flurries are expected to continue through the week, although forecasters are not expecting major accumulation.
