MONTREAL – Australia’s competition regulator is opposing BRP Inc.‘s proposed sale of Telwater Pty Ltd. to a subsidiary of Yamaha Motor Co. Ltd.
Telwater makes aluminum trailer boats in Australia under its Quintrex, Stacer and Yellowfin brands.
Yamaha is the leading supplier of outboard motors.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission says the deal would likely significantly disadvantage rival outboard motor suppliers in competing with Yamaha.
BRP says it is considering the decision and will be evaluating all available options to determine the best path forward.
The company, which is the maker of Ski-Doos and Sea-Doos, has been working to sell its marine businesses to focus on its core powersports operations.
