A crossing in his 50s who was
struck by a driver who fled the scene
Monday morning has died of his injuries.
“Sadly, the victim in the hit-and-run collision involving a school crossing guard has died,” an Ottawa police spokesperson said.
Police are searching for a dark-coloured Ford F-150 pickup truck they believe was involved in the collision.
“Efforts to locate the involved vehicle are underway, and the investigation is ongoing,” the police spokesperson said.
The crossing guard was hit at about 8:20 a.m. Monday morning at the intersection of Cedarview Road and Kennevale Drive, only a few hundred metres from Mary Honeywell Elementary School.
Ottawa paramedics said Monday the crossing guard sustained life-threatening injuries. While he was stabilized at the scene, his condition did not improve on arrival at hospital.
The local councillor, David Hill, said residents had concerns about speeding in the area, particularly along Cedarview Road. A stretch of Kennevale was made a community safety zone last summer.
