Ottawa firefighters were called to a smoky fire Saturday at 7:07 p.m. in a triplex on Trojan Avenue in the city’s Rideau-Rockcliffe ward.
First reports indicated the
fire in the basement was caused by cooking oil.
Early fire responders confirmed heavy smoke from the basement through the vents.
Additional resources were dispatched to the site.
Fire teams extended a hose into the building while others began a search for any occupants.
All residents had escaped the blaze, and it was declared under control at 7:28 p.m.
High-pressure fans were used to ventilate smoke out of the structure.
A fire service investigator has been dispatched to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
