Kingston’s popular fall fair was shut down early Saturday night after bear spray was deployed into a crowd of celebrants.
Police said in a release that they were called to the city’s Memorial Centre grounds at about 10:05 p.m. on reports of the bear spray attack.
Officers found two people who had been sprayed who were being treated by the Frontenac Paramedic Service. The victims’ injuries were minor in nature and did not require further medical attention.
Police were unable to locate a suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, two other incidents resulted in the arrest of two young offenders.
A 15-year-old person was arrested for weapons offences and breach of release conditions, while another incident led to the arrest of a 17-year-old individual for breach of release conditions.
Both individuals were held in custody for a bail hearing.
Following these arrests, the fair was shut down for the day.
The fair reopened on Sunday.
The fair had a similar incident in 2022 when bear mace was sprayed during a
fight among a number of teens.
Several fairgoers were affected by the spray, police said at the time. The injuries were not described as serious.
