Billy Joel has postponed his tour just days before a stop in Toronto.
The legendary singer, who was set to play the Rogers Centre on March 15, shared the news on Instagram, citing an undisclosed medical condition. Joel’s post said that the current tour will be postponed for four months while he recovers from “recent surgery” and to undergoes physical therapy. The statement added that Joel is expected to make a full recovery.
“While I regret postponing any shows, my health must come first,” Joel wrote in a statement. “I look forward to getting back on stage and sharing the joy of live music with our amazing fans. Thank you for your understanding.”
Last month, Joel fell on stage while performing in Connecticut. He appeared to quickly recover and was able to finish the show. It is unclear if his surgery was related to this incident.
The Piano Man is now expected to perform in Toronto on March 14, 2026. All purchased tickets will be valid for the rescheduled show.
This weekend’s postponed show — the only Canadian date — would have marked Joel’s first time performing in Toronto in over a decade.
The last time he was in Toronto was at Scotiabank Arena on March 9, 2014, though he did perform a gig at the newly-opened OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls last winter.
Known for piano playing and his signature blend of pop and rock music, Joel, 75, ranks among the bestselling artists of all time.
His first album, “Cold Spring Harbor,” came out in 1971. Since then, he’s released a dozen more studio albums, seven live albums and 18 compilations album, and has sold more than 150 million records worldwide.
Today, he’s best known for mega-hits such a “Piano Man,” “We Didn’t Start The Fire,” “Uptown Girl,” and “New York State of Mind.”
In July, Joel performed for the 150th time at Madison Square Garden in New York City, marking the most lifetime concerts at the storied venue by any artist.
