CHARLOTTETOWN – Bloyce Thompson is set be sworn in as the 35th premier of Prince Edward Island.
Thompson agreed to assume the interim role after the current interim premier, Rob Lantz, announced he would step down to seek the leadership of province’s governing Progressive Conservative party.
Lantz had previously said he would not run to become party leader, a position that would allow him to return to the role as premier.
The party’s constitution says an interim leader is eligible to be elected party leader if they resign within 10 days of a leadership convention being called.
A convention to decide the new leader has been scheduled for February 7th.
Party president Sydney Gallant said in a statement this is a pivotal moment for the party and they are eager to welcome a leader who will help shape the future of the province.
