A boy has died, and charges are pending against a driver following a single-vehicle rollover crash on the westbound QEW at Bronte Road.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said the vehicle had three occupants, with the child suffering critical injuries and the driver’s injuries being minor.
A police spokesperson confirmed with 680 NewsRadio that the child, a nine-year-old boy, died from his injuries. It appears the driver fell asleep, and the pickup truck wandered off the highway and flipped over several times before ending up in a ditch.
The driver is expected to face charges.
No one in the vehicle, including the child, wore seatbelts when the crash occurred. Police tell 680 NewsRadio that the boy was ejected from the truck as a result of the collision.
CityNews confirmed that an off-duty nurse was the first person on the scene and performed life-saving measures on the boy.
The westbound QEW near Bronte Road was expected to reopen at 5:30 a.m.
