An Ottawa man faces several charges, including drug offences and failing to stop for police, after a chase in cars and on foot last week.
The incident occurred July 4, when Ottawa Police Service patrol officers attempted to stop a vehicle for an unspecified Highway Traffic Act violation.
The driver refused to stop and drove away at a high rate of speed. Police did not pursue the fleeing car.
A short time later, the vehicle was found disabled with a flat tire on the Kichi Zibi Mikan parkway. The suspect was spotted fleeing on foot and officers gave chase.
A witness saw the driver running through long grass before returning to the path.
The police K9 Unit was dispatched and the dogs located the man, his personal belongings and a quantity of drugs.
Police said in a news release that Saleh Ghrebi, 25, had been charged with:
- Possessing property obtained by crime (under $5,000)
- Operating a vehicle while prohibited (twice)
- Dangerous driving
- Failing to stop for police
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Driving while under suspension
- Driving a vehicle with an obstructed view (due to tinted or coated windows)
He remained in custody Friday pending a court appearance.
