OTTAWA – The leaders vying to become Canada’s next prime minister will officially kick off their campaigns today.
Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to visit Rideau Hall at about noon today to request that Parliament be dissolved and an election be called.
Canadians will cast their ballots on April 28 after a five-week campaign.
Sources tell The Canadian Press that Carney, who has not yet served as an MP, will seek election in the Ottawa riding of Nepean.
Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh are both expected to kick off their campaigns in the capital region before hitting the trail.
Recent polls have suggested the Liberals and Conservatives in a tight neck-and-neck race as the campaign begins.
