Get your tissues ready and rest up those vocal chords — there’s a new Céline Dion documentary on the way, and it looks like a tear-jerker.
On Thursday, the beloved Canadian singer shared the first official trailer for the previously announced film, “I Am: Céline Dion,” which will be released on Prime Video on June 25.
Directed by Irene Taylor — a Peabody and Emmy-winning, Oscar-nominated director — the film will provide a behind-the-scenes look at Dion’s struggle with stiff-person syndrome (SPS), a rare neurological illness that she was diagnosed with in 2022.
“Serving as a love letter to her fans, this inspirational documentary highlights the music that has guided her life while also showcasing the resilience of the human spirit,” reads a statement posted on Dion’s official website.
Dion, 56, is the bestselling Canadian recording and the bestselling French-language artist of all-time, with more than 200 million records sold.
In 2023, she was forced to cancel the remaining stops on her “Courage” world tour after losing control of her muscles, including her vocal cords, due to SPS. This February, Dion made a surprise appearance at the 2024 Grammy Awards, when she presented Taylor Swift with her historic album of the year award.
In March, Dion marked International Stiff Person Syndrome Awareness Day with a post on Instagram, saying she is “determined to one day get back onto the stage and to live as normal of a life as possible.”
“It’s not hard to do a show. It’s hard to cancel a show,” says a visibly emotional Dion in the film’s trailer. “I’m working hard every day, but I have to admit it’s been a struggle. I miss it so much — the people, I miss them.”
“If I can’t run, I’ll walk,” she continues. “If I can’t walk, I’ll crawl, but I won’t stop.”
