Officials said a Barrhaven child remained in serious condition in hospital after being struck by a car on a controversial stretch of Flagstaff Road near St. Juan Diego Catholic Elementary School on Thursday.
First responders were called to the scene at about 3:30 p.m.
Police said Saturday the five-year-old was in serious, but not life-threatening condition.
The collision was still under investigation and no charges had been laid, the Ottawa Police Service said via email.
Barrhaven West Coun. David Hill said in a Facebook post earlier in the week that he was “committed” to addressing safety concerns on that stretch of road.
“Last year, I approved several traffic calming measures including flex stakes/delineators on Flagstaff (Drive),” Hill noted in the Facebook post.
“Traffic calming is normally installed after the spring thaw, which is why those safety features were not in place when they were needed (Thursday),” he wrote.
The councillor said he would continue to ask that traffic-calming measures, including a three-way stop and possibly a guard, be fast-tracked in the area.
