A Conservative Party hopeful who announced he was seeking the nomination in Carleton in February is now saying he is dropping out of the race.
Blair Turner
, a local police officer, made the announcement on social media ahead of the Easter long weekend. Turner ran for the Tories in Ottawa South during the 2025 federal election, but lost to Defence Minister David McGuinty.
Turner’s announcement comes amidst speculation surrounding where Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre will run in the next federal election, a question that has been circulating Parliament Hill since January.
Poilievre lost the riding he held onto for 20 years
to Liberal backbencher Bruce Fanjoy last April.
Former MP Damien Kurek, who stepped down so Poilievre could run in Battle River-Crowfoot, will be the Conservative Party candidate in Battle River-Crowfoot in the next election.
It is unclear where Poilievre will run in the next election, and the Ottawa Citizen’s previously sent emails to the party were not answered.
Turner’s posts on Instagram and X did not provide an explanation as to why he has decided to end his campaign.
“Dear Carleton, I hope this letter finds you well. I regret to inform you that I will be suspending my campaign to seek the Conservative Party of Canada’s nomination in Carleton,” his statement read.
“I will continue my career in law enforcement and remain dedicated to serving the communities where we live, ensuring a climate of respect and enforcement of laws, so families can thrive in safety and security.
“I will do everything in my power as a member of the community to support and ensure Pierre Poilievre and the Conservative Party of Canada become the next government of Canada!”
